St Joseph's Rotherhithe

January 2016

Dear Parents/Carers

I wish you all a happy new year.

I wish also to thank you all for supporting our cake sales and camel appeal.

Our cake sale raised £868. A magnificent effort. Year 3 raised the most money-an incredible £202. Year 3 will now choose which charity they wish to donate the money to. We did not quite manage to purchase a camel-but we did raise £143, with which we will buy three donkeys.

Letter from Nick Gibb: Minister of State for Schools.

Please see below a letter from Mr Gibb.

As a school we are obviously delighted with this news. The downside of such a letter is of course that some parents may feel: my child goes to a great school-job done. Well I am afraid it doesn’t work quite like that. Education is a partnership between parents and school. Whilst as a school we are endeavouring to do our best, I do know that some children are not being listened to read by an adult at home. This will seriously affect their educational attainment. (There he goes again-why are headteachers always moaning-no apologies it goes with the territory.)  Canada Water library is stuffed full of books just waiting for you!!!!

To the vast majority of our parents that support our pupils; I am grateful and thankful.
