Learning about Florence Nightingale with Year 1

This term Year 1 are learning about famous people and recognising that there are reasons why people in the past acted the way they did. In lesson the children acted out a poem about Florence Nightingale. Some children dressed up as soldiers and some were Florence who cleaned the hospital.

After learning about Florence in class, Year 1 went on a trip to the Florence Nightingale Museum the children took a photo next to the statue of Mary Seacole. First they met Florence who told the children all about her time in the Crimean War she was very impressed at how much the children already knew!

They were shown around the museum and saw lots of special  artefacts like Florence’s lamp, her pet owl and some of the clothes that she wore.

Natalia and Ebenezer dressed up as Florence and a soldier. They both looked very smart!
